ABOUT CIMEOSIL® AND ITS BENEFITS
What are Cimeosil® Scar and Laser Gel and Gel Sheeting, and are they safe?
Cimeosil® Scar and Laser Gel and Cimeosil® Gel Sheeting are topical products proven to soften, flatten and fade scars. When used as directed (such as preventing contact with the eyes and mucous membranes), both products are safe for adults and children alike.
On which type of scars does Cimeosil® work best?
Cimeosil® is especially effective on raised and red scars resulting from trauma or surgery, particularly hypertrophic scars and keloids.
- Hypertrophic scars are raised and red, resulting from trauma such as burns, lacerations, scalpel cuts and wound stitches.
- Keloids are raised, tough scars that are pinkish or purplish in color that can begin from something as minor as a small cut or even a pimple. Unlike hypertrophic scars, keloids grow beyond the site of the original injury.
Will Cimeosil® work on older scars?
Yes. However, the newer the scar, the more significant the results.
Will Cimeosil® completely remove my scar?
No product can do so. However, over time with daily usage, your raised scar will soften, flatten and fade in appearance.
Does Cimeosil® prevent excessive scar formation after surgery or trauma?
When used as soon as possible on fully closed surgical wounds or injuries (i.e., no oozing, scab off, sutures out, etc.), Cimeosil® may help prevent hypertrophic scars and keloids from forming.
Why the word “Laser” in the name “Cimeosil® Scar and Laser Gel”?
Our gel is formulated not only to help manage scars, but also to reduce skin redness (or, erythema) sometimes associated with laser surgery, dermabrasion and chemical peels—usually on the 7th to 10th post-operative day.
What is Cimeosil® made of?
Cimeosil® products consist of the highest quality medical-grade silicone, manufactured in accordance with FDA guidelines in an ISO-certified facility. They are biocompatible and contain no steroids, mineral oil, vitamin E or sunscreen.
How does Cimeosil® work?
Although numerous studies validate topical silicone as a scar healing agent, no definitive mechanism has yet been identified. However, it is widely believed that silicone provides a protective barrier much like a layer of skin, keeping the scar hydrated and preventing over-activity of scar cells.
Does health insurance cover Cimeosil®?
In most cases, cosmetic scar management is not covered. However, you should check with your healthcare provider to be sure.
USING CIMEOSIL®
Overall, how long should I use Cimeosil® and when will I see results?
Depending on the age of the scar and how consistent your Cimeosil® usage, you could see results in as little as one week, but likely by week four. A typical regimen involves daily usage of Cimeosil® for 60 to 90 days; however, you can continue using it until you achieve the desired results.
To reduce redness, when should I start using Cimeosil® Scar and Laser Gel?
You can begin using the gel after your skin bed has healed from laser surgery, dermabrasion or chemical peel—usually on the 7th to 10th post-operative day.
How many daily hours should I wear Cimeosil®?
Ideally, you should wear a thin layer of Scar and Laser Gel or a piece of Gel Sheeting for at least 8 hours a day. We recommend two daily applications for Scar and Laser Gel, as it may wear off due to washing, clothing contact, etc. We also recommend removing your Cimeosil® product daily so you can clean the scar area.
Should I use both the Cimeosil® Scar and Laser Gel and the Gel Sheeting?
If you’re new to Cimeosil®, you may wonder whether the Gel Sheeting needs the Scar and Laser Gel for adherence. The answer is “no.” These are two different products intended for the same outcome: scar management.
Many individuals like to alternate between using the gel and the sheeting during their treatment period, but not at the same time. For example, with facial applications, some will use the sheeting at night and—being in the public eye—the gel during the day. This is especially helpful for women, since makeup can be applied over the gel.
Moreover, since the sheeting’s non-skin side has a protective layer, using it at night will help prevent the gel from sticking to bedding. Most will also use the sheeting on body areas that are typically clothed to avoid the gel from contacting their garments. As a general rule of thumb, consider using Scar and Laser Gel on skin exposed to the public and Gel Sheeting in all other instances.
Can I use sunscreen with Cimeosil®?
Yes, you can wear Cimeosil® Scar and Laser Gel over sunscreen products. However, sunscreen is not recommended with Gel Sheeting.
What about makeup?
You can apply makeup over Cimeosil® Scar and Laser Gel after it dries for about 15-20 minutes. As with sunscreen, makeup is not recommended with Gel Sheeting.
Is Cimeosil® Scar Gel waterproof?
No. It must be reapplied after contact with water.
Will Cimeosil® Scar and Laser Gel stain my clothing?
Yes. Silicone is naturally oily, so you may want to set your favorite clothing aside while you use Cimeosil®. However, to minimize problems, only use a thin coating of Scar and Laser Gel (more is not better!), wipe away any excess and allow it to dry for 15 to 20 minutes before donning clothing. The Gel Sheeting has a protective coating on the non-skin side, so staining may be less likely.
MORE ON CIMEOSIL® GEL SHEETING
Is the Gel Sheeting reusable?
Yes. By washing it periodically with mild, soapy water to remove body oils, it will typically last about two to three weeks (until the silicone is no longer tacky). Each sheet comes with a mesh screen to use as a drying rack. Often, people purchase two sets of Gel Sheeting, enabling them to clean and dry one set while using the other.
Does Gel Sheeting require adhesive to stay on the skin?
Naturally tacky, the Gel Sheeting will stick to your skin without adhesive. However, you may want to tape it in place if you play sports or wish to prevent clothing movement from curling the sheeting’s edges.
Can I cut the Gel Sheeting?
Yes. Although Cimeosil® Gel Sheeting comes in a variety of shapes and sizes, you can trim it to any form that makes sense for your scar area.
What if the long strip isn’t long enough to cover my tummy tuck scar?
You can use two long strips together to provide full coverage..
